Price the Match

Privacy

This site is a personal research project, not a company. It accepts no bets, handles no money, and asks for no account. What follows is the whole of what it stores about you.

The cookie

The site sets one cookie, ptm_v. It holds a random identifier — no name, no email, nothing that identifies you personally — and it exists so that the views you save can be shown back to you on a later visit. It is HttpOnly, scoped to this site, and lasts a year.

It is set only when you save a view — not when you arrive, and not while you are reading or pricing. Browse the site, price a match, change every slider on it, and leave: nothing is stored on your machine and nothing here is about you. Clearing it makes the site treat you as a new visitor: your previously saved views stay on the server but are no longer linked to you, and nothing else changes.

Views you save

Pressing Log this view appends a row to a file on the server. The row holds the fixture, the stories you selected, your slider positions, the resulting probabilities, the random identifier above, and a timestamp. That record is the point of the tool — it is the evidence a view can later be graded against what actually happened.

Nothing is written unless you press that button. Browsing, selecting fixtures and dragging sliders store nothing.

If you press Share on a view you have logged, a copy of that view is published at its own address. A shared view is public: anyone who has the link can read it, and it is not tied to your name because the site never asks for one. It is not listed anywhere and search engines are asked not to index it. Email hello@pricethematch.com to have a shared view removed.

If you priced a fixture by opening somebody else's shared view, the view you save records which view you started from. It does not record anything about the person who shared it.

Analytics

The site uses PostHog, hosted in the EU, to count which features get used — which fixtures are opened, whether the narrative controls get touched. It is configured with in-memory persistence, which means it sets no analytics cookie and no persistent analytics identifier. It cannot recognise you across visits or follow you to other sites.

Server logs

The web server keeps ordinary access logs — IP address, timestamp, which page was requested. These are operational, used for spotting errors and abuse, and are not joined to anything above.

What is never collected

  • Your name, email address or any contact detail — unless you volunteer one, in which case it is used only for the thing you gave it for.
  • Payment details. There is nothing to pay for.
  • Any record of bets. This site does not know whether you bet, where, or how much, and has no connection to any bookmaker or exchange.

Who else sees it

Nobody. The data is not sold, shared or passed on. PostHog processes analytics events on the site's behalf; no other third party receives anything.

How long it is kept

Saved views are kept indefinitely — they are the research record, and a view is only worth anything once the match it describes has been played and graded. The server is in London; backups are held in encrypted object storage on Cloudflare R2. Analytics events follow PostHog's own retention.

Removing your data

Email hello@pricethematch.com and say which views to delete, quoting roughly when you saved them. There is no automated route: the volume is small enough that this is done by hand.

You can also simply clear the ptm_v cookie, which disconnects you from anything already saved.

Changes

If what the site stores changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. There is no mailing list to notify, and no version history worth keeping at this size.
